INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAYING TRAFFIC CITATIONS
If you wish to apply for Defensive Driving School, DO NOT pay your ticket online.
If you have been charged with one of the listed offenses under the COURT COSTS tab & would like to plead guilty & pay the fine without having to appear in court, you have 3 options for how to pay.
*You can pay with cash, money order/cashier’s check or credit card in the office.
*You can mail the full amount indicated to the address below. Payment must be made with a MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’S CHECK. NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Personal checks will be returned causing a delay. Please make sure your name is legible and/or a case number or ticket number is included on the payment.

*You can pay online with a debit or credit card at: Alapay.com (https://www.alapay.com) or by phone at (877) 252-7294. Payments by phone or online MUST be paid BEFORE the court date.
Several types of tickets may be resolved at RESOLVE.ALACOURT.GOV (https://resolve.alacourt.gov).
If you have been issued a moving traffic violation, you may be eligible to have the ticket dismissed on completion of a defensive driving course & payment of court costs. To determine if you are eligible, you should do one of the following:
- Visit the online traffic resolution system at RESOLVE.ALACOURT.GOV.
- Contact the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s office at 205-349-1252.
- Appear in court on your court date to discuss the option with the courtroom district attorney.
If you are APPROVED for defensive driving school, all classes are held online & there are 3 websites approved for this court.

A certificate will be issued upon completion. If you were approved through the RESOLVE site, the certificate will need to be uploaded through RESOLVE & payments of costs may be made online. If you were NOT APPROVED through the RESOLVE site, the certificate will need to be turned into the clerk’s office & costs paid at that time.
*NO DRIVER’S LICENSE, EXPIRED LICENSE OR DRIVER’S LICENSE NOT IN POSSESSION TICKETS – A copy of your valid driver’s license may be uploaded through the resolve site or presented in the clerk’s office for possible dismissal of the ticket.
*NO INSURANCE TICKETS – if your insurance was in effect BEFORE the date of the ticket you may upload or present a copy of the insurance card in the clerk’s office for a dismissal of the ticket. If insurance was obtained AFTER the date of the ticket, the ticket may be dismissed on a copy of the insurance being uploaded or presented to the clerk’s office & payment of court costs.
